We, the People, need to pay attention to our Democracy - lest we lose it.
Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty. We, the People, Blinked.
On January 20, Inauguration Day AND Martin Luther King Day, we will be swearing into office a President who has already violated his oath of office, and promises to do so again. A Reality TV Host who promises to bring us Drama & Mayhem, if not another Civil War. Our government of the people, by the people, for the people is again at risk of perishing from the earth
In 1961, John Kennedy, at his inauguration, proclaimed:
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty. This much we pledge--and more.
Join us at Civic.Net to discuss the future of our Democracy. Starting now, we encourage you to join the conversation in our chat: When Donald Trump solemnly swears (or affirms) that he will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic - what do you expect of him? What do you demand? What will you do to maintain a vigilant eye on his administration? What do you expect of the rest of us - your fellow citizens? How far are you prepared to go to preserve, protect, and defend Truth, Justice, and the American Way?
As JFK put it: And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.
Let’s start the discussion now: Add your comments in the chat. Join us on Zoom on January 20 as we hang out, comment on the inaugural address, and take your calls.
